A bit of a lightweight beginning, with a hard rock quartet spending sizable $'s to get into the VR world for inspiration, but it did get them into the game. The main character is the sole female - singer, composer, guitar. The other primary character is an Army helicopter pilot, recovering in VR after a bad crash.

A fairly slow buildup, with the female as a bard, and the male as a warrior, druid, whatever. She's a plant, he's a huge, fluffy type. The author throws in a lot of humor, hoping some will stick. The two primary characters are the only characters with much depth. Other characters are more incidental.
The story correlates with The Shaman series, beginning near the end of the first book or two.

Game mechanics - could have used more introduction and information. If the reader is familiar with The Shaman, no difficulty. Otherwise not enough information.
All in all, a reasonably good start to a new series, though the pacing is uneven and sometimes disjointed. It lacks some of the early Shaman book qualities - it didn't capture my interest nearly as well. Additionally, what is the end game. Where is this story going? With the Shaman, at least initially, it was getting out of prison. Here - inspiration, a recording contract? Not enough stated or foreshadowed direction to capture my attention.

The start of what promises to be an excellent new series by the author of The Way of the Shaman and his new co-author. I confess I only picked up on this book very recently and grabbed it right away because WOTS author so must be good, right? And once again he has delivered on a really good tale and one that shows the influence of his co-author as there is a different feel to the book and it feels, at least to me, that it has a finer texture.
I love the initial plot line and I will be buying the next book right away.
Go to it authors and may your teammate keep your fingers to the writing grindstone. More!!! D
Great read. Lets see where it goes
Good story but takes a while to get going.
The style and game mechanics are obviously similar to WOTS because it takes place in Barliona. A few new playable races are introduced to the game and the MC opts for Biota(all in the synposis). I did find myself wanting to say "I am Groot" a few times. My problem with this story comes in the last 10% of the story. The MC alters her course on a whim when up until that point she had been quite methodical in her approach to the game. It is possible I might have missed something she said that hinted at a deviation from her current plans. If so, I'll edit this review. All in all the book is still a good read and I look forward to future installments!
The magical world of Barliona… This book is very unusual for genre. The female MC is a rather rare phenomenon for the LitRPG. The plot develops smoothly and unhurriedly. MC has the exotic class, based on creativity. I recommend for everyone who loves leisurely reading and immersion.
My score is closer to 4 than to 5, but I put 5 stars, just to support the first book of the series.
I wasn't sure that I was going to like this new series as much as the first, but I have to say, it's looking good so far!
Loved it!! Nice ti return to the world of the shaman. ( Of which there is none in sight). I found the twist at the end unexpected but in keeping with the story. Eagerly awaiting more
