This book was definitely the scariest thing I've read in a long time. Dark and tormenting completely understates what the f@&! just happened. I'm probably going to have nightmares. Thanks a lot Jeremy. The world without the chess team is a scary place. Unless you live in an underground bunker. I'm going to start digging in the morning.Tags : Amazon.com: TORMENT - A Novel of Dark Horror eBook: Jeremy Robinson: Kindle Store, ebook,Jeremy Robinson,TORMENT - A Novel of Dark Horror,Breakneck Media,Fiction Horror,Fiction Occult & Supernatural
TORMENT A Novel of Dark Horror eBook Jeremy Robinson Reviews
This book has quite a unique perspective on the creation of zombie-like creatures. Although it starts a bit slow for my taste, it has a unique storyline that, once hooked, would not let me stop reading this except for work and sleep. Others here are bashing it for religious overtones, but what's wrong with that aspect of the story? Adding religion to the zombie mix makes a unique combination. I do agree with others, though, that the ending was a bit disappointing. I would have liked that character's new existence to be, no pun intended, fleshed out a bit more. I would have liked to know what she was and wasn't aware of. I would have liked a few more questions answered. But regardless, I liked this book.
Wow! What a great read. If there is one thing I love about my , it has to be the books I have found through it. I never would have read Torment or any other book by Jeremy Bishop and that is just a shame that so many miss out.
This book is one of the best horror books I have ever read. I am not going to give away any spoilers here but I have never felt so exhausted (in a good way) from a story. You really get into the action that is happening and the unrelenting pace. I was expecting another zombie book but this was such a surprise. Bishop's writing style is great and really pulls you into the action.
About three forths of the way through the book starts to evolve into something else and that is when things really get going. You really start pulling for his characters and hope they get out okay..
If you like horror or zombie books and are looking for something a little different give this book a try.
This novel stuns all your senses. It begins with a U.S. planned assassination of the Russian leader. The lone Army assassin fails, but is captured and confesses, then left to die in a wasteland. His fiancee is in Washington DC with her niece who was chosen for her winning essay. Mia is actually there with her niece to confront the president about the charges Russia has made against her fiancee in the deadly attempt. At the time of their meeting with the president, the White House is informed that Russia has released nuclear missiles at the U.S. The president gives the command to fire back nuclear weapons at Russia. The Secret Service rush the president and his guests to an escape pod which is launched into space. The whole world is errupting into flames and explosions. The equiment on the pod is highly advanced to determine when it is safe to return to earth, which it does automatically.
Now to an experience I once had after my father died. I met with a psychic who contacted a spiritual being. It was my father, as I could verify all the information he described about him. I asked the psychic to ask my father if he was in heaven, or in hell. The message given to the psychic was, "The only hell there is, is on earth." Read this intense novel, and you will agree with my father!
...I'm torn on this review. This story is a merging of Weird Science and The Vault of Horror, both of which keep you turning the page even with the five cent explanations. The author writes well, compact with enough information on the characters to keep you invested in their outcomes.... BUT... This is the second book I've read by this author, the first being Apocalypse Machine, and the theme, which wasn't as pronounced in that book as this is Christianity. Not in a C.S.Lewis kind of analogy, but a five cent religious tract, you're going to hell if you don't repent one. In Apocalypse Machine it was there, but subtle. Here, it's ... Forced. As though, here's a Sci-Fi/Horror story ( and it does both, well ) that has this weird Christian subtext like being handed a tract from a Jehovahs Witness wearing a Michael Myers mask. That's the only reason I can't give this book more than 3 stars... Maybe a Christian Horror label letting readers know? You know what you're getting in the Left Behind series, so I guess I feel a tad conned. And I have to agree with another reviewer... There is a lot of running!
Torment is a real roller coaster of a book, but not necessarily in a good way. Firstly, the plot is pretty nuts a nuclear war breaks out, the president and a few people get into some spaceships and make it into space until the planet it's habitable again. Strangeness quickly ensures and the survivors are beset by crazed survivors. Mix a zombie novel's style of run-fight-hide-repeat with Mark Rogers The Dead and you've got a good idea of what to expect.
This is the author's first novel, and sadly it feels like it. The characters are pretty flat, the writing is okay, and the plot is over the top. None of the characters are very well drawn out and we only get to know one or two of them beyond a very basic level. The writing is so-so, but nothing above and beyond the norm. Not too bad, but nothing special either.
I think the big problem is the plot. Even a brief plot summary shows that there is a lot going on in this book, which I think is part of the problem. It starts out "normal" enough then in a short period of time there's a huge war (on very shaky pretenses) and a bunch of people go into space. There's some side plots (one of the character's past affair, who started the war, etc.) too, but none of them really pan out. I think the biggest issue though is the moral behind the story. It doesn't make sense, it feels very inconsistent, and a bit preachy overall.
There's some good things about it. It's a brisk read with a lot of action, there's some interesting set pieces and ideas sprinkled through the story, and you can finish it pretty quickly. That having been said though, it was worth the .99 cents for me, but not a heck of a lot more. I'll check out his other work, but this one did not click for me.
