This one could have been so much better. The blurb announces that the reader will scream with frustration - and yes, this reader did scream with frustration! So much waffle and misunderstandings went on and on - and on.

The actual plot was good and a little different to the normal. I liked being educated about assistance dogs and I thought the characters were okay - but for goodness sake! The assumptions, the carry on over whether Donna should go out with him - oh, she wants to, but - and he can't open his mouth and TELL HER what the problem in his life is.

Okay, so she eventually finds out (after I'd skipped some pages of waffle) and the way she discovers it is quite clever, so if there's wasn't quite so much boring carry-on over what she thinks he is doing, what her mother things she is doing...etc etc etc...

It was all so unnecessary when one considers that the author could have crafted an excellent, informative, sensitive and even sexy book without Donna's miserable shenanigans.

Somebody to Love Sheryl Browne 9781908208118 Books Reviews

I enjoyed this book. My son is mildly autistic, so I related to the storyline. I thought the male lead was cute.
I liked it......wish it had a little more humor though.......would have lightened it up more.
What can I say about this book that has not already been said? Nothing. This was a fabulous read and I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found out something from this book that I never knew - not only do they have dogs for the blind, but also dogs for autism. This book was funny, engaging and all in all a wonderful book. Very highly recommended.
Sheryl Browne's second novel is a wonderful read. Put together a scorned woman, a dog, special needs child and his single father and a rabbit called Findus, shake together and see what falls out.

I laughed, cried, and at times did both at the same time when I read this book.

Sheryl's writing comes from the heart and it's truly apparent when you read this novel.
Emotions! From love to hate and everything in between--you'll experience every emotion in "Somebody to Love." This book had me feeling sympathy for Donna after her breakup, anger towards her husband, and disdain for his new flame, all the while chuckling to myself at Donna's way of handling the situations she's faced with. Donna's new love interest, Mark, captures our hearts, not only with his good looks and suave manners, but with his dedication to Karl, his autistic son.
Sheryl Browne does an excellent job of portraying, step by step, the breakthroughs made in Karl's development. She incorporates these events into her story in bits and bites for us to savour along the way.
If you want a "feel good" story that will involve your emotions, read "Somebody to Love." Just be sure to set aside some spare time because you won't want to put this book down.
Well written and edited stand-alone book, with no cliffhanger. As an American, I sometimes find British authors a challenging read because of the slang, but that wasn't the case with this author. There is slang, but its context was always clear.

This story has two insecure, but likeable main characters, surrounded by interesting, believable people with a variety of challenging problems. The couple needs to work through a series of misunderstandings, while managing their own complex lives. It's an entertaining, frustrating and sweet story -- in the end, I think my favorite character is the female lead's 17-year-old son.

The romance is G-rated, and there's very little cursing. In addition, there's a very well done sub-plot about an autistic child and a service dog that was a touching and inspiring addition to the story.
Donna O' Connor, raising a teenage son whose father tends to ignore him, and reeling from a tumultuous marriage to same, returns to find her car illegally parked and Officer Mark Evans, a blue-eyed hunk in uniform, coming out of the post office aimed directly for her vehicle. Instead of a ticket, they agree to have coffee.

Because he's afraid he'll scare her off, Mark won't tell her he has a young, autistic son. She won't tell him about her miserable marriage and her hopes and dreams of leaving her grueling office job and oppressive manager.

Donna's life includes a three legged dog, a rabbit named Fundus, and a wonderful son who understands his mother is doing her best for him. Mark is torn between getting the right care for his son and doing what is right for Donna.

Through a multitude of miscommunications, intrusion from Donna's well meaning mother and Mark's senile father, and hilariously funny star-crossed scenarios Donna and Mark finally connect when she lands a day care position where Mark's son, Jack, is in care.

In this wonderful story of love and redemption the animals play a large part including Jack's service dog, Starbuck.

Well done, once again, Sheryl!
