I adore Lynn Kurland but held off reading this book because of the many unfavorable reviews. For the most part, it seems the majority of people will either love this story or hate it. It was much more intense than than any of the previous novels I've read by Ms. Kurland, but I'm so glad I finally decided to give it a try. This is not a light-hearted romance, but instead what I call a heavy historical... one that will grab your heart and touch your soul. I laughed so hard at times, and bawled like a baby at others. It is deeply emotional, but the love story is so extremely beautiful that it's worth the heartache just for the joy of watching this this couple finally come together.

Gwen was hilarious and and I absolutely loved her. She has so much spirit and grit, that it's hard for anyone to keep her down. Rhys was truly wonderful too, however, he he was the more emotional one. Gwen was the stronger in that respect, which was really sweet and also very different. They met and fell in love quite young and as they grew, so did their love and soul-deep connection. Throughout all the grief and obstacles in their way, Rhys is forever determined to be with the one and only woman he knows he will ever love. He never once gives up or stops fighting for their love or his belief in their future together.

Luckily, Kurland added enough humor to keep this book from becoming too depressing. Then there were all the delightful characters, as well as a couple of despicable ones. I laughed, cried, and felt overjoyed by the end of Rhys and Gwen's unforgettable journey. It's a touching and moving tale about true love, soul mates, and faith. I will never forget these two or the undying love they felt for each other. Although terribly sad at times, I simply fell in love with the people in this book. It may not be a story for everyone, but in my humble opinion it's not to be missed! Just an amazing romance and one I shall always feel privileged to have had the pleasure of reading =)

Good book.
An absolutely wonderful read. Lynn Kurland is a master at weaving tales if love and the reality of fighting to achieve it. Her characters and well developed leaving the reader with no choice but to be filled with curiosity about their individual lives. I look forward to completing her series.
My daughter told me about this author---what a good author she is. I have read the first three books. Number three was excellent!!! I absolutely could NOT put this book down! I just had to finish it.

Rhys and Gwen are the main characters. They met when she was 9 and he was 14. A young man who was knighted at 14 by Phillip of France in 1200 for saving his life at the age of 14. Rhys already had a reputation many grown men were afraid of him. Gwen fell in love with Rhys, and he fell in like with her. This is not a time travel, but Rhys and Gwen are the start of the family that carries on in Kurlands some 20+ books on time travel. Starting with Robin, who is Ryys and Gwens son. This book started my enjoyment with all of Kurland's books. You cannot go wrong with her books. She and Diana Gabaldon rank as the best time travel authors with me, in fact best authors You will enjoy them all. IF you find their books, get them. they are all great reads and are keepers. Kurland has Robins personality is already developing quite strongly in this book, and he is only 6. and he keeps the same personality as he grows and becomes an adult, follows through in all her books. Robin is either mentioned or is in most of her time travel books. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a very good read, and a book that follows through with other members of Rhys family through out the 13th through the 21 century.

Absolutely the best series in time travel! Ms. Kurland is a pleasure to read as the storyline grips you from page 1 and doesn't let you go till the end. A must read for any fan of romantic time travel!
This is a baseline story. How it all began. I loved the way each character follows their dreams! Now on to the next...
A damsel in distress. A knight in shining armor. How can it get any worse? Oh, yes she has to marry his enemy. He's the "hero" of the book and yet gets horsewhipped (I didn't like that part at all). It took too long for them to get together. Too little romance between them until they actually do get together. The writer does a good job of their hearts being in love and unrequited love in the beginning but all the "waiting around" is not something I would do or I think any woman. Lynn Kurland would have done better filling in the parts if she had actually went on the quest with her knight instead of waiting at home and getting pregnant by her repulsive husband. Next time, Keep them together. Rhys is actually my favorite character in all of her books and kind of reminds me of the Richard Gere hero that will do anything to get the girl.
